Hair loss can be treated. That is the most important thing to know. The options are more numerous than most people realise, and the right treatments can both slow the loss, restore lost hair and in many cases give lasting results. Which solution is the right one depends on the cause of your hair loss, the extent, and what you want to achieve.
Below you will find an overview of the treatments Pilorum offers, what they do, and who they are relevant for.
The only two preparations approved by the FDA for the treatment of hair loss. Finasteride is taken as a tablet and slows the production of DHT, the hormone that damages the hair follicles in hereditary hair loss in men. Minoxidil is applied as a lotion or solution and stimulates hair growth in both men and women. Used in combination they enhance each other's effect. Both require continuous use to maintain the result.
V2X is Pilorum's signature treatment against hair loss and combines three elements: microneedling with a cell-stimulating extract, LLLT laser therapy and a hair serum for home use. The treatment activates the hair follicles and promotes the production of healthy, strong hair. A course consists of 5 treatments at 4 to 6 week intervals, and the final result is seen after 12 months. 70 per cent of patients experience improvement.
V2X is suitable for both men and women with hereditary hair loss, diffuse hair loss and alopecia areata, and is also used as pre- and post-treatment for hair transplantation.
PRP, platelet-rich plasma, is a natural treatment method where the body's own growth factors are used to stimulate the hair follicles. A small amount of blood is taken from the patient, centrifuged to isolate the plasma and then injected into the scalp. The treatment is free of side effects and can be combined with V2X and hair transplantation. A course for hair loss treatment consists of 5 treatments.
LLLT laser therapy uses low-energy light to stimulate the blood flow in the hair follicles and prompt the cells to increased activity. The treatment is painless, requires no recovery and is used at Pilorum as an integrated part of the V2X course. It can also stand alone as a maintenance treatment.
Hair transplantation is the only permanent solution to hair loss. With the FUE method, individual hair follicles are harvested from the neck and implanted into the thin-haired or bald areas. The result is natural-looking hair that grows for life. At Pilorum the prices start from DKK 39,500, and a PRP treatment on the day of the operation is included.
A free consultation clarifies whether you are a candidate, and how many grafts are needed to achieve your desired result.
SMP is not hair growth, but an aesthetic solution that gives a credible visual result. By means of precise pigmentation of the scalp, a look is created that resembles closely cropped hair and conceals thin areas or baldness. SMP is well suited for those who do not want or are not suitable for surgery, and can also be used to increase the impression of density after a hair transplant.
There is no one universal solution. The choice depends on the cause of your hair loss, your age, the extent of the loss and your expectations of the result. Many of Pilorum's patients combine treatments for the best outcome, e.g. V2X and PRP, or a hair transplant followed by V2X.
The best starting point is a thorough hair analysis, where a specialist assesses your situation and recommends the most targeted approach.
